In this assignment, students create an argument that they then present through video. Their objective in creating the video is to change their viewers’ opinions on a topic. The students may select any topic, but teachers should encourage students to work within their local community on projects. The goal of the assignment is to remix a strong supported argument into a mixed-media interpretation of that argument.
What is the Objective?
To demonstrate student knowledge of argumentation skills through mixed-media.
Why is This Important?
Once students have mastered the skills needed to write an argumentative essay they should be able to apply those skills to various forms of media and demonstrate their understanding of the basic skills of argumentation. Remix projects allow students to develop both their written skills by creating a written argument and then demonstrate their broader applied knowledge of that field through various media.
What Do I Need?
Video-equipped devices such as camera phones or video recorders, editing software, projector or tv-to-display films.
