These workshops were developed over a period of three years as part of an MSU Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant from the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives. In this project Ellen Cushman, Joyce Meier, Kristen Heine, Julia Kiernan, Cheryl Ceasar, Deb Carmichael and Sonja Wang collaborated together as a research team to explore the self-efficacy of students, preservice teachers, and PCW instructors in teaching diverse learners through culturally sustaining and inclusive pedagogies. Preservice teachers were placed with PCW instructors to fulfill their college of Education mandated placement hours in preparation for college writing classrooms. The team of teacher researchers experienced these professional development workshops in an effort to revise the curriculum and pedagogy of this intensive writing course in order to better meet the learning goals of international and first generation students. These workshops can be adapted to your writing or high school classrooms by pointing to your students’ writing and your institution’s shared curricular objectives.
